Create connection keys in eConnect

Create connection keys (App Key and Secret), use Quick Connect, the Email connector and revoke a connection.

To connect your accounting software with eConnect, you need connection keys. These consist of an App Key and a Secret that allow your software to communicate securely with the eConnect platform. You can create them in just a few steps.

What are connection keys?

Connection keys consist of two parts:

  • App Key (also called Consumer Key): the identification code of your connection
  • Secret (also called Consumer Secret): the password that secures the connection

Together, they form the credentials that allow your software to send and receive invoices through eConnect. Treat the Secret like a password and do not share it publicly.

Creating keys
  1. Log in to platform.econnect.eu.
  2. Go to My environment and select the organization for which you want to set up the connection.
  3. Navigate to Connections or Connect software (depending on your subscription version).
  4. Click Create new connection.
  5. Select your software package from the list.
  6. The platform generates your App Key and Secret. Copy these immediately: the Secret is shown only once.

Entering the keys in your software

After creating the keys, enter them in your software package. The exact location varies per package, but generally follows this pattern:

  • Open the settings or configuration of your software package.
  • Look for the section for e-invoicing, eConnect or Peppol.
  • Paste the App Key and Secret in the designated fields.
  • Save the settings and test the connection.

For some packages (such as via Quick Connect), you can paste the keys with CTRL+V in one go in the connection window.

Quick Connect

With Quick Connect you enter the keys in an accelerated way. Instead of copying the App Key and Secret separately, a connection window opens where you paste both keys at once with CTRL+V.

  1. Create connection keys (see above).
  2. Click Quick Connect next to the created connection.
  3. A new window opens. Press CTRL+V: the keys are automatically imported.
  4. Select the administration for which you want to retrieve invoices.
  5. Enter the email address linked to the administration in your software package (not your eConnect email address).
  6. Optionally set a start date.
  7. Choose whether you also want to process sales invoices.
  8. Check the confirmation box and click Apply.

Tip: The email address you enter in Quick Connect must be the address linked to the administration in your software package. Do not use the email address of your eConnect account.

Email connector

One of the connections you create via Quick Connect is called Email connector in the platform. Note: despite the name, this works through connection keys and the connection belongs under Connections -- no email is submitted. Do not confuse this with the Email Receiver: that is an App with which you receive invoices yourself by email on the platform. The Email connector does the opposite: it automatically forwards invoices received via eConnect to an email address of your choice.

Email connectors with transformation

Besides the standard Email connector, there are variants that transform the received document into a specific format (always SI 2.0, always BIS v3, always SI 1.2 or always SALES005 Invoice). The setup is the same as the standard Email connector; eConnect handles delivery in the chosen format.

Email connector: forwarding received invoices

As a recipient, you can create an Email connector to automatically forward invoices received via eConnect to a specified email address. By default, only the XML is included -- no PDF or other attachments. This behavior is controlled by the excludeAdditionalAttachments parameter:

  • excludeAdditionalAttachments=true (default): additional attachments such as a PDF are not included.
  • excludeAdditionalAttachments=false: the PDF and any other attachments are also included.

For the standard Email connector (the Collabrr auto-hook), this parameter is set to true. If you also want to receive the PDF, only Techsupport can adjust this.

Note after a Techsupport adjustment: if you as a customer subsequently adjust the Email connector yourself, that change automatically overwrites the Techsupport adjustment. The PDF will then be suppressed again and no longer included. Do not modify the connector yourself after the fix.

If you instead use the mailhook in the PSB and configure the connector yourself, you can set this parameter yourself -- that is a separate, standalone self-service route.

This forwarding is a suitable alternative for a recipient who is not (yet) on Peppol but does want to automatically retrieve the invoice data or the PDF document.

Connecting multiple organizations

If you manage multiple organizations in your environment, create a separate set of connection keys for each organization. The App Key is unique per organization-connection. It is possible to use the same API key for multiple organizations within the same software package, but the organization-specific identifier (such as the eConnect ID) must be set per organization.

Lost your keys?

If you have lost the Secret, you cannot request a new Secret. You need to create a new set of connection keys. The old keys become invalid. Don't forget to update the new keys in your software as well.

Security

The connection keys provide secured access to your eConnect organization. Keep the following in mind:

  • Only share keys with the person setting up the connection.
  • Store the Secret in a safe place (password manager).
  • If you suspect keys have been compromised, create new ones immediately.
Revoking a connection

If you want to switch to a different connection method or stop using a software package, you can revoke the connection.

  1. Log in to platform.econnect.eu.
  2. Go to Connections in the relevant organization.
  3. Click the connection you want to revoke.
  4. Click Revoke key.
  5. The connection is now inactive.

After revoking, you can delete the connection entirely: go back to the overview, click the three dots next to the revoked connection and choose Delete connection.

Also revoke the connection in your software package. Otherwise the software keeps trying to communicate through the old keys.

Reconnecting

Want to reconnect? Create a new set of connection keys. The old keys no longer work after revoking.

Note: If you switch to the Autopilot, you must revoke the old connection first. Two active connections to the same administration can conflict.

What happens to your invoices?

Revoking does not affect invoices that have already been sent or received. New invoices are no longer exchanged through the old connection. Invoices that were ready but not retrieved can be retrieved later by reconnecting and using "Re-offer to API".

Frequently asked questions
What should I do if I've lost my Secret?

If you have lost the Secret, you cannot request a new one. You need to create a new set of connection keys, which invalidates the old keys. Don't forget to update the new keys in your software as well.

My software asks for a password or secret, what should I enter?

Many software packages label the Secret field "password" or "secret". That is usually the App Secret, not your eConnect platform login password. Log in to platform.econnect.eu as an administrator of the organization, open that organization and go to Connections. Create a new connection and note down the App Key and Secret immediately: the Secret is not fully visible afterwards. Enter both in the eConnect connection of your software. If authentication keeps failing, share which software package you use, which fields the software shows (username/password, App Key/Secret or Client ID/Client Secret) and the exact error message.

Can I use the same connection keys for multiple organizations?

It is possible to use the same API key for multiple organizations within the same software package, but the organization-specific identifier (such as the eConnect ID) must be set per organization. For the best security, it is recommended to use a separate set of keys per organization.

What happens to my invoices if I revoke a connection?

Revoking has no effect on invoices that have already been sent or received. New invoices are no longer exchanged through the old connection. Invoices that were ready but not yet retrieved can be retrieved later by reconnecting.

What is the difference between the Email connector and the Email Receiver?

The Email connector is a Connection: it automatically forwards invoices received via eConnect to an email address of your choice. The Email Receiver is an App: with it you receive invoices yourself by email on the platform. Both use the word "email" but work in opposite directions and sit in a different place in the platform.
